Dear Families!
We are so happy that you’ll be part of the Vista Verde K-8 School community. First of all, please accept our apology for the length of this message. This is one of the longer messages you’ll receive from us. We ask that you read it thoroughly!
Below is important information and links to all school and district calendars. Our school offices open for the school year beginning tomorrow. Our first day of school with students is JULY 22nd!
Data Confirmation
Please complete the Data Confirmation process--this process must be completed the first week of school. The process can take anywhere from 15-30 minutes. Please note, that if you have more than one child, Data Confirmation must be completed separately for each child. The directions for Data Confirmation can be found here:

Class Assignments
Welcome to the 2025-26 school year! Official class assignments will be posted on your MyIUSD Parent Portal account sometime Monday afternoon on July 21st around 3:00 pm. Please know that each year our teachers spend many hours making the class placements for the next year's grade level. These teachers know each child well--their strengths, areas for growth, positive and negative peer influences, ability levels, and academic needs. Every single grade level team puts an immense amount of thought into each student's placement so that we have the optimum learning environment for every child.
Our ultimate goal in making new classes each year is to create a classroom that is balanced in all aspects so that each child has equitable access to the educational program. It's not about making things equal for teachers, but rather making the learning environment equitable for every student. Often, the necessity of creating balanced classrooms inhibits our ability to incorporate parent requests for specific teachers.
It is not uncommon for someone to hear that “so and so” is the best teacher to have in “such and such” a grade. Nor is it uncommon for a student to initially feel his teacher is “too strict” or “too” something else. Fortunately, once given a chance to succeed at adapting to a new classroom, finding new friends, and building a new student/teacher relationship, most parents discover that their children’s placement is working well after all.
At this time, classroom assignments are considered to be firm, though last-minute notification of withdrawals or increased enrollments during the first few days of school may necessitate staffing changes and/or classroom reassignments. Students’ attitudes towards their teachers and school are highly influenced by the attitudes of their parents. We can all provide our children with a successful beginning of the school year experience by responding to their classroom assignments with positive enthusiasm.
Student supply donation lists for each elementary grade level are also listed on our Vista Verde website. We welcome donations of student supplies, yet, please note, that contributions are voluntary and all students will have access to materials regardless of whether a donation is made.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support of Vista Verde K-8 School!
Important School Operational Information
Parking Lot Protocols: Developed in conjunction with the Irvine Police Department and the City of Irvine, the parking lot and traffic flow guidelines for VVK8 are as follows. Please review these carefully and share them with anyone who will pick up or drop off your child (grandparents, childcare givers, etc.):
General Traffic and Safety Reminders: Please review these safety guidelines and procedures and share them with grandparents or caregivers who may come to pick up your child. Thanks! Highlights from the longer protocols and procedures are below
PLEASE:
- Use a crosswalk—always
- Pull your car forward until there is no space between you and the car in front of you
- If you’re picking up multiple children at staggered dismissal times, please park in a space instead of waiting in the pickup line at the end of the day.
- Exiting and entering a car, and parking, are prohibited on the red curb
- Drivers: Please stay in your car at all times. If you need to exit the car, plan on parking in our lot.
- Students should exit the car from the drop-off line on the curbside only—never on the driver’s side. This is very dangerous.
- Finally, as much as we love dogs, they are prohibited from being on campus. Please leave your dog at home, or in the car if it is safe to do so (cool temperatures for a short period of time).
Attendance Line: Please call or leave a message on our Attendance Line at 949-936-6351 before 8:00 a.m. if your child will be absent for the day. Please tell us your child’s first and last name, the elementary classroom teacher or middle school advisement class teacher, grade level, your name and relationship to the child, and the reason for the absence.
Sincerely,
Jerry Vlasic
